Tollbooth of Aosta West, then towards Cogne to the large parking lot in Valnontey.

The Grand Sertz or Gran Serra is located in the center of the National Park of Gran Paradiso, with a varied course but with a challenging stretch you will discover one ski touring in a little-used area. Beautiful view on the chain of the Apostles.

Description of way

From the parking lot in Valnontey, cross the bridge and climb the summer path to the Sella refuge. Climb the wide curves through the woods to cross the river Lauson. (in spring this stretch is carried out with a shoulder skis) and go to the mountain pastures Toule. Continue climbing on the easy slopes to the left of the stream. Achieving Lauson pasture, climb to the plateau where is situated the refuge Vittorio Sella.

From the refuge head south-west on the easy slopes, outflanking the right ones steeper and reach the glacier Lauson. There is facing a very steep stretch to reach the glacier above, It is exceeded in a groove in the middle of the rocks, placed at the end of the rocky ramparts of the Grand Vallon (sometimes it goes along this stretch on foot). Climb along the ridge of the glacier, then fulfill a long traverse to the left far below the summit. Climb the last few meters on the final climbing tower.

The itinerary requires experience of high mountains, it is advisable to be accompanied by a mountain guide.
